Knowing the things to bring to San Blas is very important to have the best experience and without losing the comfort that the Guna Yala’s Land can offer.
The following list is the result of the years that I have traveled to San Blas, Panama, so I consider these to be the things to bring to San Blas, Panama.
1. Gel Soap:
Due to the amount of sand on the San San Blas Islands, Panama, is best to bring soap in gel instead of bar soap, because in the latter, the sand is stuck to it.
2. Towel:
Not all islands offer a towel for their visitors so we advise to bring one from home or hotel.
3. Toilet paper:
Although many of the islands offer their customers toilet paper in their bathrooms, on some occasions, the high demand makes them run out quickly.
4. Toothpaste:
This is an item that is obligatory to carry, on the island you can not find toothpaste, only on the island of Cartí.
5. Flashlight:
At night, some islands do not have electricity, so if you want to go to the bathroom or go for a walk around the island, it is better to go with a flashlight.
6. Repellent:
In rainy season, usually in the harbor and on some islands, there are mosquitoes, so we high recommend putting on repellent.
7. Ice Block:
The most valued item in San Blas, no ice is sold on any island. We recommend buying ice block instead of ice pack for durability. Usually an ice pack melts at midday.
8. Snacks:
In the islands they do not sell snacks, so we recommend bringing the snack of your choice from Panama City.
9. Identification:
Without identification you will not be allowed at the entrance of the Forest Reserve called Nusagandí. In the case of Panamanians and residents bring the respective ids, case of tourists, bring the passport with the visible entry stamp.
10. Drinks:
Important to bring drinks like water, sodas, beers, etc. Prices on islands can triple the price compared to prices in the city for being in a tourist area and difficult to access.
